Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

There are a lot that I am thankful for this year. I’m thankful for my family, friends and career. My family and close friends keep me grounded and sane while my work allows me to provide and share with my loved ones the better things in life.

However, being a full time working mom comes with a cost. I’ve missed PTA meetings and play dates, dinners and date nights. The guilt of being a full time mom comes in full force specially on days when Raven, my youngest would ask me if I have work and I answer yes.

That’s why I see to it that I spend as much quality time as I can with them when I’m at home. With the industry that I’m in, I’m fortunate to have weekends off. These are non-negotiable Mommy and Raven time.

Quality time with the kids need not to be expensive. It can happen anytime, in ordinary days and situations. Here are a few simple bonding activities that Raven and I do — finding the joys in an ordinary weekend.

Here he is with his trademark Mr. Pogi pose

Going to the grocery is my me time. Who else can relate? As much as i enjoy browsing through the aisle of Hypermart alone, I usually tag along Raven for a quick bonding. Most of the time, I end up with cookies and juice drinks not on my list but I get to spend time with my little man. He’s very madaldal and has lots of kwentos of his own!

Better than be occupied with his tablet, I’m glad that Raven still likes to play with his toys. Though we don’t buy him toys anymore unless it’s his birthday or for Christmas. I try to say yes to play time with him as much as I can. Most of the time, this is our one on one time as well where he shares with me what happened that day or his recent dream/nightmare of just about anytime really!

What did I say about ordinary moments? One of our favorite bonding activities is brushing our teeth! Raven is so energetic it’s hard to pin him down sometime. But when it comes to brushing his teeth, he’s all in!

And who says we only brush our teeth in the sink? Wherever he feels like it!

After 2 kids, I’ve learned my lesson and now knew the importance of introducing dental hygiene to the kids as early as possible. Raven is pretty independent and likes to brush his teeth na on his own. He particularly likes flavored toothpaste like Hapee Kiddie’s Orange Squeeze. He finds the usual mint flavor too strong. I like it because it has the right amount of fluoride for his age and it really makes brushing an exciting activity for him. Looking forward talaga magbrush ang bagets every time.

Brush time is Hapee Time

Spending quality time with the kids, no matter how simple the activity is, shows that we value and appreciate them. It is on these quality times as well that we get to empower them of our love and positive interactions.
